Synopsis:
Flurries and snow showers, particularly across the western portions of the state for the entire forecast period. High winds move in Sunday night and persist through the end of the forecast period. Temperatures look to remain fairly steady.
Short-term:
A northwesterly flow will keep lake effect snow showers in the forecast for the western regions. However, the entire state looks to be under a moist air mass for the entire weekend, particularly at the 850mb level. Temperatures will be in the low 30's for highs generally and the low 20's for lows, except in the northern and more mountainous regions, where they will be slightly colder. Winds will increase Sunday night due to a strong low pressure system that will be to our northeast. This system will be affecting us from Sunday night through late Tuesday.
Long-term:
The beginning of next work week will be characterized by gusty winds and snow showers throughout the state, but again mostly in the western regions. The SREF has over a 70% chance of precipitation for much of western Pennsylvania from late Sunday night through Monday night, when the model run ends. We put in a slight chance of accumulation for some areas, particularly the Northwest due to the presence of Lake Erie. Winds don't look to die down until Tuesday night, when the low pressure finally moves northeast and weakens.
