Technical Discussion

Synopsis…

A Low pressure system is expected to make its way up the coast of the United States for today and tomorrow. With this low pressure system making its way in, snow, rain, and mixed precipitation will be scattered over much of Pennsylvania. The mixed precipitation conditions will persist until Tuesday afternoon.  Another low pressure system is expected to make its way in on Friday.

Short Term….through Tuesday Afternoon

With the low pressure system making its way into the northeast, it appears to be strengthening and deepening allowing for a lot of precipitation types. Areas around Lancaster will experience a changeover to rain around early morning. North of these areas will be experience freezing rain with little accumulation. Temperatures will be hovering around the lower 20s in most areas tonight and in the upper to middle 30s for tomorrow.

Long Term….Tuesday Evening through Monday

Rain and snow showers will be occurring Tuesday evening in most areas of Pennsylvania. On Wednesday, western Pennsylvania will experience precipitation as the system lifts northeast. Cold air is expected every few days with a split flow occurring. In northern Pennsylvania, very cold air is expected for the rest of the week. As Thursday rolls along, the GFS and NAM models suggest snow will be occurring but not till late. Friday night and days that the system is present will be cold. Models suggest little snow accumulation since the system appears to be weak.
