After a couple days of mixed precipitation and flurries, we will finally see some clearing skies. As an area of high pressure builds over the region, expect some breaks in the clouds tomorrow and lots of sunshine on Saturday. Then, a clipper moves in on Sunday, bringing lots of clouds and the chance for accumulating snow. This system will leave freezing temperatures in its wake - the coldest we've seen so far this season!
Short-Term:
A short-lived ridge will build in over the commonwealth during the next couple days, providing us with clearing skies and a bit of a warm-up. Temps are currently forecast to rise ~10 degrees F above average on Saturday. Then the next system makes its appearance, this time a clipper from Canada. Its associated cold front looks to affect the commonwealth on Sunday morning as the center of low pressure to our north strengthens to sub-990 hPa. At this point, model guidance is still unclear whether we will get a few flurries or a few inches of accumulating snow from this storm. The only thing for certain is that any precipitation that falls on Sunday will be snow, as 500-1000 hPa heights will be in the 5300 range.
Long-Term:
After the clipper passes and moves to the NE, freezing temperatures will plague the region. Expect highs in the mid-20's on Monday and possibly into the teens on Tuesday.
