Thursday Morning Discussion

Synopsis:  After an unexpected 4 inches of snow yesterday across the commonwealth, skies have cleared today as a weak high pressure system settles into the region.  This fair weather won't last long as the next area of disturbed weather moves into the region Friday night.  the 00z NAM gave our region a 6-10 inch snowfall last night.  This solution is very unlikely though.  Expect scattered rain and snow showers for now.  Skies will then clear out on Sunday as our next storm system approaches Tuesday with a threat for rain and or snow.  The long range continues to look unsettled with many threats for rain and snow.

Short Term:  The next couple days will be rather mild with temperatures in the mid 40s on Thursday.  The storm system that will approach the region on Friday appears to be just rain and snow showers as depicted on the GFS/EURO.  The 00z NAM's radical solution of 6-10 inches of snow seems to be very unlikely.

Long Term:  Expect very unsettled conditions it the long run.  Temperatures will remain seasonal in the upper 30s across much of the area.  The long range GFS and EURO have storm systems crossing through the region every few days with a threat for rain and/or snow.  A couple models are showing a possible very strong storm system towards the end of next week.
