Wed Night

Synopsis: A weak system will move through tonight, bringing isolated snow showers and cooler weather. High pressure dominates late in the week, before a dynamic storm system affects the area Friday into Saturday. Cold air will be ushered in behind this storm for the weekend.

Short Term: A moisture starved clipper system will continue to move through the region tonight, bringing scattered snow showers and a blast of cold air. The snow will be mostly concentrated in the higher elevations. High pressure will begin to move into the area late tomorrow and we will see a general moderating trend before the next system approaches on Friday.

Long Term: A dynamic storm system will approach the region Friday. Model guidance is in good agreement that a shortwave diving down from Canada will phase with the southern stream, causing a Miller B type system off the mid-Atlantic coast. The only question is how fast the shortwaves interact. The GFS and the EURO continue to phase relatively early, bringing a wide swath of accumulating snow across the commonwealth. The NAM and short range guidance has the systems phase later on. The certain thing is there will be some swath of snow across the state, with an area of rain and mixed precipitation in extreme SE PA. Behind this storm, a NW flow will usher in cold air for the weekend.
