Thursday Afternoon Technical Discussion

Synopsis:  Following the low pressure system that moved off the east coast today, another low pressure system will move north of the region Friday bringing scattered showers along with it. A strong cold front will move into the region as the center of low pressure moves over the great lakes. Strong winds and lower than average temperatures are expected for the weekend. Conditions are expected to improve into the beginning of next week.

Short term: A negatively-tilted, upper level, low pressure system is moving north across the Great Lakes. Concurrently, a relatively strong surface cold front will move into the region Friday. Due to the negative tilt of the trough, rain showers and stronger winds are expected throughout the weekend. Temperatures are expected to be below average, as well.

Long term: Conditions should warm up slightly on Sunday before another front moves into the region. This relatively weak frontal system will move into northern Pennsylvania during the day Sunday. This system is expected to bring the possibility of rain back into the area.  After this weak front moves through, expect a brief period of warmer and calmer conditions until yet another storm system moves into the eastern United States.
