Active Pattern Ahead

Synopsis:

High pressure looks to remain across Pennsylvania one more day before a week cold front pushes through Friday night. The weekend will be dry, but wet weather will return early next week as a stationary front creates some shower activity followed by the passage of a cold front.

Short term: Friday -Sunday

The sunny skies will return again Friday as high pressure remains in control across Pennsylvania. As we approach the evening hours, a cold front to our west will start to bring clouds into the commonwealth. As the cold front pushes through overnight, a few showers will be possible. The rain should be light and all shower activity will be ending by early Saturday morning. Expect the cold front to push through eastern Pennsylvania and then stall as it moves towards the coast. High pressure will move in behind it leading to a pleasant weekend with clear skies and temperatures around 70 degrees.

Long term- Monday-Tuesday

Monday looks to start clear with clouds moving in later in the day as the stationary front sitting to our south starts to push north. Periods of rain are possible Monday night, especially in eastern Pennsylvania as the stationary front pushes through. The exact location of the rain is yet unknown as the American models have the heaviest rain across eastern and central Pennsylvania while the European keeps it further to the east. Depending on where it sets up, flash flooding could be possible in some of the heavier showers. The rain should end briefly on Tuesday before a strong cold front starts approaching later in the day. The low pressure associated with this cold front will be fairly strong around 990mb. This will lead to widespread shower activity Tuesday night across the state. The showers will end early Wednesday with strong winds possible behind the front as this cold front ushers in our first true shot of autumn weather.
