Thursday Evening Technical Discussion

Synopsis

High pressure will slide offshore tonight before a weak cold front pushes through Friday night. High pressure will return this weekend and provide dry weather. Wet weather move in early next week as a stationary front creates some shower activity before another cold front passes through the area.

Short term ( Friday Morning –Sunday Night)

Mostly clear skies and light southwesterly winds will allow temperatures to fall into 50s across most of the area tonight. Mostly sunny skies are on tap Friday thanks to high pressure which will cause temperatures to rise steadily across Pennsylvania. The cold front of the west will start to bring clouds into the commonwealth during the evening hours. As the cold front pushes through overnight, a few showers will be possible before it ends early Saturday morning. This cold front will continue to move through eastern Pennsylvania and slowly down as it approaches the coast. Behind the cold front, high pressure will build in and lead to a pleasant weekend with clear skies and temperatures in the mid-70s.

Long term (Monday-Tuesday Night)

As we approach early next week, the ridge of high pressure will begin to break down. As a result, clear skies during the day on Monday will be replaced by clouds later in the day. An area of positive vorticity will move north and bring periods of rain Monday night. The heaviest area of rain is expected across eastern Pennsylvania. Both the GFS and ECMWF have the heaviest showers in the east and there is the chance for some flash flooding under some of the heavier showers. On Tuesday, the rain will end before another strong cold front approaches in the evening. There will be widespread showers as this front moves through Tuesday night. These showers will dissipate overnight as the front and strong northwest winds give the area a taste of fall weather starting on Wednesday.
