The Calm after the Storm

Synopsis:

The strong cold front we experienced yesterday is well on its way into the Atlantic and has left the region under the influence of a cP airmass.  Along with a bit of northerly flow from Leslie, this means much cooler temperatures and mostly sunny skies. These conditions will dominate our weather much of next week.

Monday/Tuesday Outlook:

As stated, the strong cold front has come and gone.  Building high pressure to our west will continue to bring cool air down from Canada.  Leslie, with cyclonic rotation off to our east, will also do her part in steering some Canadian air into the Northeast.

The hi-res NMM/ARW 9/12Z model runs show some very scattered showers developing over the lakes and heading southeast across northwest/central Pennsylvania on Monday afternoon, but GFS and NAM 10/00Z models only show broken clouds.  Either way, precipitation on Monday will be scarce, if present at all.

All mentioned models show no chance of precip on Tuesday, with barely a cloud in the sky.

Rest of the Week:

The Tuesday trend continues through the rest of the week with clear skies and warming temperatures.   The absence of clouds will most likely bring warmer daytime temps and cooler nighttime temps than forecasted by current models.

GFS shows a cold front developing in the Midwest on Thursday and Friday that could affect our state as early as Saturday morning.  Chances are it will not be nearly as strong as the front we saw this previous Saturday, but, of course, it is still worth watching.
