Synopsis: Clouds are invading the state this morning, and should take over the sunny city of Philly by this afternoon. This is ahead of a very quick shortwave which should bring light snow to places south of the Turnpike on Wednesday with minor accumulations, rest of the state should see flurries or light snow showers. Rest of the week, high pressure takes control, with a very minor cold front pushing through on Saturday, which behind that, an arctic chill for the weekend.
Short-term: Visible Satellite showing the increasing cloud cover across the state, with Philly, and Harrisburg remaining sunny. Temps are in check under the cloud cover, but already around 40 in non-cloud areas. The clouds will remain, as both the GFS and NAM show a shortwave ball moving through the region for Wednesday. The timing is in question at this point, but we went with a broad timeframe of early afternoon-late evening (until Midnight) for it to snow. The 0z NAM (4km HI-RES) shows a burst of snow for places north of the Turnpike (1-2"), with the area including and south of the Turnpike with 2-4". Not sure what the 0Z NAM is going with, so we went with minor accumulations for the Turnpike and South of it, with areas to the north flurries with the possible of light snow showers.
Long-term: Thursday morning we will be clearing out of the clouds and quick shortwave, the day should be a clear, mostly sunny day, still slightly above average for temperatures across the state, as high pressure builds in to the south of us. High pressure remains through the weekend, keeping us high and dry. The tail end of a cold front will push through from the NW on Saturday, the lake-effect prone areas will see light snow with State College just seeing clouds. Rest of the
state will see partly sunny skies with the chance of a flurry. With this passage, high pressure moves out, but another builds in as a quick arctic blast moves in for the weekend.
Kept temperatures near previous shift, with minor changes.
