Synopsis:
A couple of systems will be making their way across PA this upcoming week and into the weekend. The first system - an area of low pressure accompanied by a warm front and a cold front, will make its' way up from the Southeast towards the Northeast by tomorrow. This system will deliver widespread showers to PA for both tomorrow and Wednesday, and even possibly bring a thunderstorm. By Wednesday evening, however, the cold front is expected to clear out, which will leave behind nicer weather for Thursday and into the first part of Friday. Just before the new weekend comes, however, another cold front (this one considerably stronger than the first one) will sweep across PA Friday evening and early Saturday. It won't bring as much moisture as the first system, but temperatures will fall considerably behind it.
Short-term:
One more nice, sunny day today, as high pressure helps to hold off any showers trying to move up from the south. However, into overnight, this area of high pressure will retreat to the north and east, and allow the system currently in the deep South to bring showers to PA. The system is expected to mature by roughly the early part of Wednesday, which means that the area of low pressure will actually move back towards the west, and there will most likely be some sort of a dry slot. The dry slot looks to be over the western part of PA at this time, so areas such as Pittsburgh should actually see a pretty decent, warm day on Wednesday, while eastern PA still sees some showers. Later on into Wednesday, and certainly by the overnight hours into Thursday morning, though, everybody should clear out - once the frontal system passes through PA.
Long-term:
Thursday and the first half of Friday should be fairly pleasant with nice temperatures for early October - they won't fall very much as a result of the FROPA. However, another cold front coming out of Canada and moving southeastward will increase the clouds across the Commonwealth by the time Friday afternoon rolls around, and this will bring a few showers along with it Friday evening into Saturday morning. Much cooler temperatures are expected for this upcoming weekend as the 540-mb. height line comes close to PA. Temperatures will only be in the 50s and 60s come next Sunday during the day, and lows could dip close to freezing in the northern mountains.
