Synopsis
After a couple days of warm weather, things will change late on Friday as a cold front begins to approach the commonwealth. Rain and much cooler temperature thanks to cold air advection behind the front will make Saturday's weather ugly. There is even the threat for some winter weather across high elevations Sunday evening.
Short Term (Tonight through Saturday Night)
Temperatures are in upper 50's across the region this evening and with clear skies, there is the chance for fog to develop Friday morning. The fog will dissipate as the sun rises and with warm air advection, temperatures will surge into the 70s ahead of the cold front. This will keep us above average before the cold front begins to cross the area Friday afternoon. Showers will continue through 12z Saturday morning across Western PA and slowly move into State College around 15z to 18z Saturday afternoon. Cold air advection will also take hold and limit high temperatures across the area to the low to mid 50s in Western and Central PA. Highs in the 60s will be likely across the Southeast Saturday.
Long Term (Sunday Morning through Wednesday)
Behind the cold front, northwest winds will help usher in cooler air. Showers will linger Sunday into Monday. Another developing low pressure system will begin near Illinois and travel eastward toward the Mid-Atlantic States. This system will carry rain to PA on Sunday afternoon into the evening hours. Due to weak PVA, the low won't really strengthen until it is off the coast of New Jersey. Furthermore, there is the potential for a few flakes behind low across the northwest areas Sunday night. After this system, high pressure will begin to build into the region Monday and allow temperatures to remain near average through Wednesday.
