Rain and Sunshine

Synopsis:

Enjoy this beautiful, warm weather while you can because it will be over very soon. A cold front will be making its way across the state tonight bringing with it a chance of showers for the entire state. By Saturday afternoon, all of the rain should be out of here and some peaks of sunshine are possible, so anyone heading to Beaver Stadium for the Penn State vs. Northwestern game shouldn't have to deal with rain, but temperatures will be much colder than what we have been seeing. Temperatures will be in the mid-50s Saturday afternoon. Another front will be moving through the state on Sunday bringing another chance of showers for the state. The rain should be out of here by Sunday night but temperatures will be rather chilly. Lows will be in the 30s. Higher elevations could even see lows close to the freezing mark. High pressure will build back in for the region for the beginning of next week and highs will return to around 60 degrees with sunny skies.

Short-Term:

NAM and WSI-RPM models continue to show the showers associated with the cold front dissipating before or over central PA, hopefully just in time for the noon kickoff!  Even if we do get some rain, it won't be a lot.  Although the showers might dissipate, the drop in temperatures won't.  All models are consistent in a forecasted 20 degree drop over the next two days, with highs on Sunday in the mid-50's.  Then, our next shortwave system moves through during the afternoon hours on Sunday.  Some models (GFS) continue to show this system producing some snow across PA, but recent NAM runs show freezing temps following behind the line of precipitation in the cold sector.  So, freezing temps and precipitation will occur across PA on Sunday, just not at the same time.

Long-Term:

High pressure will dominate our weather for much of the work week after the shortwave trough moves through on Sunday.  Until mid-next week, there looks to be negligible precipitation and comfortable conditions.  Enjoy it, because more wet weather looms next weekend!
