Synopsis...
As the weekend rolls around, we can expect much warmer temperatures, with an increase in humidity as well. By Saturday night, however, a rather large cold front will be passing through the region, bringing in considerable cloudiness and rain.
Short Term...
The area of high pressure that has had a stranglehold over us will still be in place for the next couple of days, bring with it an increase in warm air advection throughout upcoming days. The approaching cold front will help to bring warm, moist air from the southwest, resulting in higher temperatures. For Friday, The WRF and GFS models both show strong signs of humidity aloft, with moisture present in the form of rain, so a scattered shower or thunderstorm is definitely possible over the weekend. PA will definitely experience another hot and humid day Saturday with some areas reaching 90 degrees, based on the timing of this front. This aforementioned cold front will be ready to enter the commonwealth Saturday night, changing the weather patterns significantly.
Long Term...
Western regions will begin experiencing widespread showers and thunderstorms Sunday morning. The eastern half of the state can expect the rain to enter their region by Sunday night. The GFS model seems is forecasting a pool of warm, moist air left over from the previous few days, which is a fairly broad and steady area of rain/thunderstorms passing through the state with peak intensity over the west and central regions. State College will be seeing a fair amount of rain from this system between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. The models seem to be in concurrence that this front will make its way out of Pennsylvania by Monday morning, indicating that any lingering showers will be tapering off by Monday night.
