Thursday Afternoon Technical Discussion

Synopsis

The majority of the remaining heavy rain from Lee's remnants passed through the region today, as the low continues to move westward. As the weekend draws near, the chance for showers and thunderstorms will persist as the low continues to weaken and eventually move out of the area.

Short Term (Through Saturday)

The remnants of Tropical Storm Lee continue to deposit moisture from the gulf over the northeast. Central and eastern portions of the state have already experienced record rainfall and flooding as a result. As tonight moves into Friday, the closed off low will begin to drift west, bringing the potential for more widespread rain and possible thunderstorms. Temperatures should start building back to average on Friday; some areas on the eastern side could reach up into the 80s. As Saturday draws near, the potential for rain and thundershowers will remain, as the low continues to dissipate and head out. Temperatures for Saturday will be in the 70s for much of the state.

Long Term Sunday and Monday)

The chance for precipitation will continue to decrease as the weekend draws to a close. The low will finally make its way out of the region, as the sun will finally make a grand reappearance for the latter part of Sunday and into Monday. Temperatures for Sunday and Monday will be quite seasonable, hovering in the mid-70s for much of the commonwealth.
