Technical discussion

Overview

We look to be in a persistent rainy pattern for the next week.  The cut of low currently bringing rain will continue to do so through tomorrow night as it slowly meanders up the coast. Wednesday could bring some clearer weather associated with a week ridge of high pressure. The threat for more steady rain returns Friday night and Saturday.

Short term

Today periods of moderate rain will be spinning around the cut off low sitting over Virginia. Without strong upper level flow, the low fill be slow to move, wandering northeast off the coast throughout the next 36 hours. A result of the prolonged steady rain it looks like many regions of the state could see upwards of an inch of rain with heaviest amounts in the east. Wednesday night the storm finally moves far enough away to cut of the moisture in our state and a week ridge builds in. This leads to a dry day on Thursday, with some lingering clouds, especially in the northern tier of the state.

Long term

Friday should start out dry for all areas of Pennsylvania with mostly cloudy skies out ahead of our next system. The next low will be a great lakes cutter that will be well developed and most likely occluded once it starts affecting the state. Rain pushes in from west to east, starting late in the evening Friday and encompassing the whole state by morning Saturday. This looks to be another moisture rich storm which will bring a prolonged period of moderate to heavy rain, lasting into Saturday night.
