Synopsis:
Expect a mix of sun and clouds today, with high temperatures hovering in the mid 50s. A strong disturbance will affect the state tomorrow, bringing rain showers. High pressure will build in as the weekend closes, allowing for some sunshine and dry conditions for the remainder of the forecasting period.
Short-Term:
The 000 UTC runs of the WRF and GFS models both show a low pressure system evolving over the Midwest strengthening and tracking northeastward throughout today. The center of the low pressure system is projected to pass well to our northwest by tomorrow afternoon. However, we will still receive a nice portion of the associated precipitation swath. The GEFS ensemble members, as seen in the plumes from the 1200 UTC run, show a somewhat wide spread for total rainfall amounts, anywhere from ~ .9 inches to ~ 2.0 inches. The ensemble mean of the SREF 900 UTC run shows rain showers entering the westernmost regions of the state by late tonight/very early tomorrow morning, with the heaviest showers affecting central portions of the state by late tomorrow afternoon. Only lingering showers should remain over the state by Sunday morning.
Long-Term:
All models point to a nice ridge of high pressure building over the state by the end of the weekend, before another low pressure system approaches by the middle of the week.
