High pressure to our north brings sunny skies and more seasonable temepratuires across the Commonwealth. The next chance for precipitation will be with a system that will move in on Thursday afternoon and exit the region by Friday evening. This system could have a mixture of precipitation. A powerful system looks to be setting up for the beginning of next work week.
Short-term:
Sunshine and seasonable temperatures will be the rule for the next few days due to a high pressure system that is currently north of the Commonwealth. The WRF shows the 540-line surging north before the next low pressure system approaches on Thursday, while the GFS shows the line coming northward earlier in the week. Either way, we expect temperatures to be around freezing or a little above for the next two days. Thursday evening a low-pressure system begins to move through the state. Currently, the SREF shows all precipitation being rain at the beginning of the storm, with the exception of the Northeasternmost portions of the state.
Long-term:
Thursday night and Friday will see the end of the storm, and during the day on Friday the SREF shows I-80 to be the approximate rain/snow line for this system. However, future shifts will have to keep an eye on the track of the storm. This system will move out fairly quickly on Friday, and sunny skies are expected once more for Saturday. The long-term GFS shows a powerful low pressure system developing and moving up the east coast at the beginning of next week; this is something to keep an eye on.
