Synopsis:
Across the state cloudy conditions is the way of life. These clouds will remain with us to at least Tuesday morning after a storm system from the south pushes through the region. After that sunshine and cold weather will return for Tuesday night through Thursday. We look to the south for another storm system to see if it will make a run at us.
Short term:
Both the GFS/NAM show clouds remaining with us today but during the afternoon, both of them show some breaks of sunshine making their presence across the state. But they quickly disappear as a clipper system from the west rolls into the area. It looks like the models (GFS/NAM) both have this clipper system dying off during the morning hours on Monday, hence why Western/Central portions of the state have snow showers until noon on Monday. A break in the action will occur on Monday afternoon before the main show of the week occurs. This part of the forecast got very tricky very fast. The NAM takes a storm system from the south out to sea, and we get nothing. The GFS takes this same storm system and skirts the East Coast with snow. The EURO comes over the 40N 70W benchmark and we see snow. The CMC is southeast of the EURO but still brings snow to the state. Following the guidance of the HPC and looking at the vorticity, and jet streaks, the International Models of the EURO/CMC. In this case these models made more sense on the storm than the NAM or GFS.
Long Term:
The snow will end by noon across the state according to the GFS/EURO/CMC combo. After this we return to our normal schedule of the NAM/GFS, which both show skies clearing and sunshine returning for Wednesday. Cold air will be invading Tuesday night into Wednesday. Cold air and sunshine will be with us for Wednesday. Thursday there is a chance of another storm. At the moment the GFS has taken the storm out to sea, while the EURO shows the edge of the storm. We went with a combo of GFS/EURO and put partly cloudy skies, allowing us for wiggle room as needed.
