Synopsis...
A strong clipper system moving eastward to our north today will cause temperatures to drop throughout the day as strong winds around the low will usher in cold air into tuesday. Following this quick shot of cold air, the rest of the week will devote itself to a February warm-up for much of the eastern US.
Short Term...
A sharp cold front passing through the area today will draw in cold air for overnight tonight and into tuesday. A few snow showers will accompany the passing of the front, but no significant accumulation is expected. Winds could gust over 40 mph today and tonight due to a strong pressure gradient around the clipper system. Sunny skies will be observed tuesday as a high pressure system moves over the state.
Long Term...
A broad ridge will begin to move into the state on wednesday as the high pressure system moves to our east and allows for warming SW winds. Temperatures will gradually warm up wednesday through friday in to the 50's and 60's to possible record values by week's end. A low pressure system will move out of the Rockies thursday and north of PA of friday to bring some rain showers towards the end of the week. A cold front associated with this storm should push through the state some time late on Friday. The extent as to how far south the front will bring cold air is still in question and varies across forecast models, but the amount of cold air will be critical to the type of precipitation we will see for the following storm some time early next week as a short wave pushes out of the west. This is one to keep an eye on for us snow lovers.
