Technical Discussion
Synopsis
The storm system that brought snow across the region should be well out of our area today. We will be left with clear skies and seasonal temperatures over the next couple of days. Thursday introduces the next chance for precipitation. A low pressure system moves in from the southwest bringing what could be a range of precipitation types.
Short term:
Skies should clear out for much of the state today, and the sunshine should persist for the next 48 hours along with cool temperatures. The abrupt clear up is due to a healthy ridge of high pressure moving over the state.
Long term:
On Thursday the high pressure departs and clouds should build back over the state. A low pressure system will approach from the south and west, bringing with it a substantial amount of moisture. The question remains what type of precipitation will fall. This all depends on track and how well the cold air holds its ground. As of now, it looks like the center of low may stay to the south of most of us, reaching about as far north as the mason Dixon line. If this verifies much of the state with the exception of the southeastern parts will see at least some frozen precipitation. The storm should clear out Friday night.
