Synopsis

High pressure off the Carolina coast will cause a southwesterly flow to persist for the next few days.  Temperatures will remain above normal through Friday before a cold front moves through the area Friday evening. This front will bring a slight chance of showers and temperatures closer to normal along with gusty winds.

Short Term (Through Friday)

As a result of the high pressure situated on the East coast creating warm air advection, and with the help of southwesterly flow, temperatures will remain well above normal through Friday. Thursday will feature mostly cloudy skies as a weak shortwave passes through the area. This shortwave will increase moisture in the atmosphere which will promote cloud cover early Thursday but once this shortwave moves out midday ,skies will clear which should allow temperatures to rise to the mid-upper 50's with some areas reaching 60. On Friday, with mostly clear skies and great mixing ahead of the front, temperatures across the forecast area should approach the lower-to mid 60's before the front reaches the area during the mid-afternoon. This front will bring a chance for showers, much cooler temperatures and gusty winds of 10-15 knots. On Saturday, winds could approach 20-25 knots as the mixing will bring down high winds aloft.

Long Term(Through Tuesday)

Winds will subside overnight Saturday and become calm by sunrise on Sunday. As the low moves up the coast, high pressure will build in for Saturday to Sunday afternoon. As we head into early next week, our eyes turn to a low pressure system approaching from the west on Monday into Tuesday. This system could bring a chance of wintry precipitation. However, it is too early to get too specific. Confidence is moderate though of precipitation falling on Monday and Tuesday next week. Temperatures in the long-term look to remain near normal.
