3/1 technical discussion

Synopsis

In the Mid-Atlantic there will be a high pressure system settling into the region for most of week, with some convective precipitation moving into the area Friday from overrunning of a warm front associated with an approaching low pressure system.

Short-Term
Tuesday night thru Thursday

Through Thursday morning there will be a strong nocturnal inversions in place from nearly clear skies Tuesday and Wednesday evening. The inversion will break allowing for increasing air temperatures through Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon due to more solar radiation being converted to sensible heat rather than latent heating due to little to no snow cover. In the later parts of Thursday evening the GFS and WRF models are pointing to some increasing clouds from an approaching warm front.

Long-Term
Friday through the weekend

Clouds will be getting thicker due to increased convection from overrunning taking place as a warm front approaches the Mid-Atlantic area early on Friday.  As the warm front moves through the area, the models are showing convective precipitation occurring in the early to mid-afternoon. This could be a mix of rain, freezing rain, and snow depending on the 850mb temperatures. There will  likely be a slight break in precipitation on Saturday morning until the low pressure system moving in from the west comes through, bringing along a cold front which will cause synoptic-scale-oriented rain and thick clouds which hang around for much of the weekend.
