Wednesday Afternoon Technical Discussion

Synopsis:

The wet and dreary weather that has plagued the state today will soon be a thing of the past as a ridge of high pressure will move over the eastern seaboard tonight and remain entrenched there through the end of the work week. This will create mainly sunny skies and temperatures well above average for Thursday and into Friday. A moisture starved cold front will swing through the state on Friday bringing not much in the way in precipitation. However, this system will bring gusty winds and more clouds to the western half of the state. Behind this front a weird little short wave will develop that could bring additional rain showers to regions south of the I-80 corridor Friday night and into Saturday before this system races off to sea by Saturday night. Conditions will remain fairly calm Sunday and into Monday before our next storm system approaches the region next Tuesday.

Short Term (Tonight through Friday morning):

The low that brought the rain to the region today will move out of the state tonight allowing for clouds to decrease. A large area of high pressure currently centered over the South Eastern US will take control of the weather over the next couple of days due to a large upper level ridge that will be rolling over the eastern seaboard. This area of high pressure will also create a southerly flow that will compound the effects of the sunny skies allowing temperatures to soar Thursday and Friday with some regions of Southeastern PA reaching into the 70's on Friday.

Middle Term (Friday afternoon through Saturday evening):

A moisture starved cold front will swing through the state on Friday bringing clouds, winds, and a few rain showers to the state. The front will propagate west to east through the state so the further east you are, the longer you will remain pre-frontal and the higher your temperature can reach on Friday. Behind this system there will be a quick hitting system based off of PVA for Saturday. This will spark a few showers in regions south of the I-80 corridor. The strength of this precipitation varies greatly from run to run so keep an eye on it for further shifts.

Long Term:

After the precipitation of Saturday, High pressure from Canada will center over the state for Sunday and into Monday. This will cause clear skies with cooler conditions than Friday and Saturday. The pleasant conditions should persist until Monday night when our next system moves into the region.
