Sunday Morning Technical Discussion

Synopsis:  Sunny conditions across the state will lose out to cloudy conditions moving in from the west associated with a storm system heading our way.  Showers associated with the warm front will start late Sunday night and into Monday, and we remain showery for Monday as the cold front pushes through late.  Tuesday we dry out, then for Wednesday another round of precipitation makes its presence known.  This time, anyone North of I 80 has a chance of going over to wintry weather Wednesday Night.  Thursday we begin to clear out.

Short-term:  Sunny conditions will give way to clouds as a short wave rides along the jet stream in Southern Canada for tonight and into Monday.  The GFS and NAM have the same solution except the NAM is a little slower (go figure).  So we went with a combination between the GFS and NAM.  Both models keep the heavier rain to our north, which most likely will not help our flooding concerns.

Long-term: Tuesday for a brief period we will be able to clear out, before more clouds start to roll in from a storm system riding along I 80.  The tricky part comes, that the 540 line dives south on us along with the 850 0°C also diving south.  With this, we believe that anyone NORTH of I 80, especially in the higher terrain has a chance to changeover to sleet and snow for overnight, nothing looks to really accumulate as this should be very scattered at this point in time.  The storm departs late Wednesday Night and into Thursday.  Clearing from the storm will take place on Thursday.
