Technical Discussion

Synopsis:  High pressure will build over the region, allowing for mostly sunny skies and cold conditions through Saturday. Expect high temperatures in the mid-30s.  An evolving low pressure system will affect the region Saturday into Sunday, bringing the chance of snow showers for portions of the state.  Dry and settled conditions will follow for the first part of the week.

Short-Term: Both the GFS and WRF 1800 UTC runs show a strong region of high pressure remaining over the state through late Saturday.   Both models also project a weak low pressure system evolving over the south-central US to march east northeastward.  Some moisture associated with the low pressure system will clip portions of the state.  The SREF 900 UTC ensemble mean for the NE shows light precipitation entering the southern portions of the state by late Saturday night.  The center of the low and the most significant precipitation will pass well to the south of the state.   Only lingering snow showers will remain by late Sunday morning into early Sunday afternoon over most of the state.  The 2100 UTC SREF NE probability fields show a moderate chance of snow over the most southern portions of the state as Sunday dawns.

Long-Term:  The models project high pressure building in over the state Monday into Tuesday, bringing settled and dry conditions.
