Synopsis:
A strong cold front will be passing through the area, although not much precipitation is expected in the central part of the state. Westward there is a chance for showers, due to the orographic effects of the Laurel Highlands. The main effect the front will have is a drop in temperature across the state. Hurricane Earl is traveling up the eastern seaboard, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms to Philadelphia and other eastern regions of the state. as the outer bands come ashore.
Short-term:
The cold front is expected to arrive overnight. Temperatures across the state do not look like they will rebound much tomorrow from their overnight lows. Earl will cease affecting the eastern part of the state by late tonight and tomorrow. Winds will increase across the state tomorrow, with steady wind speeds of 10-20 knots across most of the state. Low-level moisture gives a chance of clouds even after the passage of the front.
Long-term:
Temperatures rebound toward the end of the long weekend. Skies clear, although the WRF especially is showing a tendency toward clouds and even slight precipitation toward Lake Erie. They look very much like winter lake effect snows, which makes sense due to the warmth of the lake. Another ridge will build toward the beginning of next week, and temperatures look to be returning to seasonal normals.
