Monday Afternoon Forecasting Shift

Synopsis…

A powerful ridge of high pressure that extends all the way from the surface to the 300mb level will control the weather through Wednesday with abundant sunshine and temperatures in the low to mid 70's. A series of cold fronts will make their way westward starting with the first that will move through the state Wednesday night into Thursday. This front will not make temperatures colder and in fact will increase daytime highs into the 80's for the end of the week.  The second front will move through the region Friday night and will lower temperatures back towards seasonal averages for the weekend. In addition, I strongly believe that both of these fronts will be moisture starved when the move through the commonwealth with only the PM, NE, LH, regions seeing more than just a few scattered showers.

Short-term (Monday-Wednesday)

Temperatures will be slightly above average with daytime highs slowly approaching 80 degrees by Wednesday. Overnight lows for Monday night will be extremely chilly across the state and I wouldn't rule out the possibility of front along the northern tier of the state Tuesday morning. Also, with overnight lows approaching the dew point, one cannot rule out the possibility of patchy morning fog for Tuesday morning. A moisture starved cold front will approach Pennsylvania Wednesday night but again, I don't see much in the way of rain fall for anywhere besides the windward mountainous regions.  Also, although there will an approaching front on Wednesday, I don't expect to see much in the way of wind due to the lack of temperature gradient between the frontal boundary.

Mid-term(Thursday-Friday)

The rain should move out of the state quickly from the first frontal system with only a lingering shower or two Thursday morning. Although, the front will have vacated the region, I expect to have a good amount of clouds remain over Pennsylvania for Thursday and into Friday before the second cold front sweeps the clouds out of the state Friday night and into Saturday. Temperatures for Thursday and Friday will be WELL ABOVE seasonal averages with some parts of the state pushing into the upper 80's by Friday. Again, I expect winds to remain fairly low through Friday; however, it could be pretty busy behind the cold front on Saturday. Rainfall associated with this front will be minimal again due to the fact that these systems will be moisture starved and again only windward regions will see anything more than a passing shower Friday night.
