Synopsis:
Near-record high temperatures today, fifteen to twenty degrees above average. A cold front is passing through tonight, bringing cooler temperatures for the remainder of the forecast period. Rain moves in toward the beginning of the next work week from the south due to a cutoff low.
Short-term:
A region of high pressure is dominating the region today and bringing high temperatures to the Commonwealth. We forecasted a bit hotter then the WRF and a bit more cloudy as well, due to convective clouds that form due to daytime heating. Models are still showing very little chance of precipitation with the front passing through this evening, and the SREF is showing the slight chance of a shower across the western half of the state due to the front. Immediately after the front passes the GFS and the WRF are in agreement that a dry air mass at the 700mb level will prevent precipitation and cloud cover throughout the weekend.
Long-term:
Sunday night clouds will begin building due to a low approaching from the south. The lastest GFS and WRF runs don't show a high possibility of precipitation until later in the day Monday. The chance of showers throughout this rain event appear to be about 50%. However, we expect very few rays of sunshine as there is a large amount of humidity at both the 700mb and 850mb level. Our forecasts for Tuesday were largely persistence, with slightly warmer temperatures in most zones.
