Sunday Techincal Blog

Synopsis:

Western Pennsylvania is under the influence of morning showers, while Central and Eastern Pennsylvania are under the influence of mostly sunny skies.  This will change as an upper level low gets cut off just as a low pressure system rides up the East Coast.  This low will stall off the coast of New Jersey and even retrograde backwards into the Commonwealth before finally moving out to see by a cold front on Wednesday.  Sunny weather returns on Thursday.

Short Term:

Western Pennsylvania will see scattered showers during the morning hours then remaining cloudy during the rest of the day.  A low pressure system that is riding up the East Coast will bring showers to Eastern Pennsylvania by the evening hours; the GFS and NAM both show showers moving into the region for Sunday night.  The issue becomes for Monday, who will see rain.  The GFS has showers in Eastern and extreme Northern PA, while the NAM has the entire Commonwealth seeing showers. We went with scattered showers for everyone, with Western PA getting into the action later in the day.

Long Term:

According to both models as Tuesday comes into play the showers will become very isolated in nature, so we left the Commonwealth under mostly cloudy skies with a chance of a shower.  A cold front will finally be able to push the cut off upper level low out of the region, the GFS shows a slight chance of a shower as the cold front pushes through.  So we went with mostly cloudy with an isolated shower ahead of the cold front, and behind the cold front a mix of sun and clouds.
