Technical Discussion

Synopsis...

An upper level low pressure system over the Northeast will help to keep cloudy, cool and damp conditions over much of Pennsylvania through Wednesday into early Thursday morning. As we progress into Thursday, the low will move northeastward allowing a ridge of high pressure to build in from the west. This will bring mainly clear skies and gradually warming temperatures through Sunday.

Short Term (Wed-Thu Morning)...

Surface low pressure currently off the New Jersey coast will slowly move eastward during the day on Wednesday until it is below the upper level low over central PA. Once this happens, the system will begin to weaken and move northeastward with the jet stream. In the meantime, clouds will continue to blanket the state and scattered showers will be a possibility thanks to some PVA. The greatest chance of rain looks to be on the west side of the upper level low. As the low exits the state the pocket of heavier rain will move SW to NE as well. This low will help to keep us cool as well with 850 temps as low as 2C translating to surface temps as low as the upper 40s. A few showers will linger towards the northern and eastern zones by Thursday morning, but clearing will be the trend for everyone for the rest of the day.

Long Term (Thurs-Sun)...

High pressure will move in from the west at both the surface and the 500mb level. This sinking air will lead to clearing skies throughout Thursday and into the weekend as well as warming. Highs Thursday will be near 60 and closer to 70 on Friday with mostly sunny skies. Warm air advection will continue into the weekend keeping the slightly above average temperatures around. Saturday and Sunday will have clear skies as well.
